PURE COCONUT OIL USES

For a while now I have been using coconut oil (Trader Joe's Organic Virgin Coconut Oil) on my skin right out if the shower & let me tell you, my skin has never felt softer. After having my skin addicted to this magnificent oil, I tried using regular lotion my skin was like "What the hell is this crap?! Give me the good stuff!" Just goes to show that all these different articles I've been reading aren't full of mumbo jumbo.

Pure coconut oil, sold in jars in specialty and health food stores, is said to have some health benefits. Though it contains a large percentage of saturated fat, coconut oil has been credited with lower rates of heart disease in Polynesian populations. This may be because the saturated fats it contains are processed by the body better than those found in animal fats. Used topically, pure coconut oil can also moisturize the hair and skin.
Cooking
Pure coconut oil can be substituted for other vegetable oils when cooking, baking and deep-frying. Because it remains solid at room temperature, it can also be used as a shortening or butter replacement. Try replacing the oil or butter in a recipe with an equal amount of coconut oil. Keep in mind that you may notice a slight coconut taste.

Hair
Pure coconut oil can be used topically as a hair moisturizer or conditioner. Rub a little coconut oil onto the ends of your hair, or all over your hair if it's very dry. Leave on for several hours, or overnight if you prefer, then rinse out.

Skin
Coconut oil is an ingredient in many body lotions, but pure coconut oil can also be used on its own as a skin moisturizer. Put a little on your fingers and rub into your skin. Coconut oil has a melting point of about 76° Fahrenheit, so it should melt as you apply it.

Acne
New research by the University of California-San Diego suggests lauric acid, which is prevalent in coconut oil, can be used to treat acne. The university is working to develop a delivery system containing a high concentration of lauric acid, but you can try using pure coconut oil at home as a facial moisturizer. There are no guarantees, but it may help clear up your acne.

Couch Hunt

I've been on the prowl for couches lately. I will be reupholstering a couch I recently came across. It has a lovely wooden frame (which will also be painted) but the fabrics is... well... horrific! So, I have a few things & ideas in mind....

Now, my couch looks nothing like this grey one...but the beautiful velvet grey would be a great accessory to my living room.

Bonito Hair Colors

Well, at the moment I'm going crazy looking for the right color to dye some of my hair. Once upon a time in high school I had it pink, hot pink. I remember I had just turned 16 and my mother asked "What do you want for your birthday?" At this point in my life all I wanted was to do crazy things (one of them dying my hair and shaving the back of my head) and going out with my friends. So...the next day she took me to beauty supply place and let me! I thought she was the coolest for acctually letting me do this. So now, I'm almost 30 & craving to dye my hair like I once did in my younger days only a little more grown up. Here are a couple things I had in mind.....

Love these girls...

Tinkerbell Cake

So a ex co-worker of mine had called me outta' the blue and "I had rememberd you make cake and wanted to know if you could make me a cake for my daughter's 4th birthday?" So, of course I jumped at the chance, and when he told me the theme was tinkerbell I got even more excited and in just a second my head was already filling with ideas. I was super syked. So I told him I would get back to him and almost imediatly began to put pen to paper. I got out my coloring pencils (which I might add...I draw like crap) and began to atempt to draw what I had in my mind. So, I sent him my idea, and was a little skeptical about almost the whole thing, but I promised I would come out terrific and would be pretty damn pleased with the results. So for the next 2 1/2 days I worked. I worked my little fingers to the bone! I baked, I frosted, I cut and trimmed, I melted, dyed, stained my hands, decorated, took many breaks, and finally after alot of oh shit's and okay okay okay I can do this, I'm okay it'll come out, I FINALLY DID IT!!!! It actually came out how I dreamed it would come and I was soooo damn proud of myself (I did'nt think I had it in me) ....and best of all.....it got there in one place and they alllllll loved it! YAAAAY BEVY!!!

...first blog

Okay so... my name is Beverly. I currently live in Long Beach  California, I'm 28 going on 29 in August (super syked). So I have to admit that the only reason I started blogging was just to put pictures of my cakes (or whatever else I end up making or working on) out there....and since I figure no one will even end up reading this I thought maybe I could just put it out and have nothing to loose. Where to begin???
